Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Everyone starts with the intake form, families and schools alike. After you submit it, you are contacted by email with the next step.

Do you diagnose dyslexia?

Yes, as an educational diagnosis. Dyslexia is identified through testing of reading and language skills, not through a medical exam, so a doctor is not the person who answers this question. Everyone starts with a screening. If the screening data warrant it, the Comprehensive Dyslexia Evaluation follows, and that is where the dyslexia identification is made. If the right next step is outside reading, I will say so and point you to the right professional.

Do we need a diagnosis before we begin?

No. A screening comes first and shows exactly where reading is breaking down. If a full evaluation makes sense, it is recommended from there.

Is intervention in person or virtual?

Both. Sessions run 50 to 60 minutes, and the first semester meets twice a week.

What if intervention is full?

Screenings stay open, and they stand on their own. Screened families are kept on file and contacted when an opening fits their student's needs and schedule.

Does insurance cover this?

Griffin Reading services are educational, not medical, so they are private pay. Dyslexia is an educational diagnosis, and it is not covered by insurance no matter who performs the testing.

How long does intervention usually last?

Research suggests that meaningful change in how a dyslexic brain reads can take about two years of consistent work. Some students make large gains quickly, and others need more time. There is no way to promise an exact timeline. Intervention takes as long as it takes, and for some students that is several years. Progress is reviewed each semester, so you always know where things stand.

Families and schools both start the same way, with one intake form.
